Present at NACDD’s Annual Conference in Utah

The theme for the 2017 NACDD Annual Conference is “A Quality Life: Count Me In!”

The Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD) encourages organizations to submit proposals and share best practices with other states at the 2017 National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) Annual Conference. The deadline to submit a proposal is January 31, 2017.

NACDD is the national association for the 56 Councils on Developmental Disabilities (DD Councils) across the United States and its territories. TCDD is a member of NACDD.

Each summer, NACDD partners with a different DD Council to co-host the NACDD Annual Conference. During the conference, people and organizations from around the country come together to share the innovative programs and strategies they are implementing to improve the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The 2017 NACDD Annual Conference will be held July 11–14 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

TCDD encourages organizations in Texas to submit presentation proposals so other states can learn from the work being done in Texas to improve the lives of people with I/DD. The theme for the 2017 conference is “A Quality Life: Count Me In!” NACDD seeks proposals related to the theme and that fit within the framework of one or two of the following topical areas:

  • Impact of public policy on people with disabilities
  • Engagement of people with I/DD in their communities and beyond
  • Innovative strategies to tackle barriers to quality

NACDD is also interested in proposals that feature leadership strategies and skill building, self-advocates taking action on important issues, or in-depth information about a specific topic.

In 2016, Texas Tech University’s Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research presented at NACDD’s annual conference in Washington, D.C. Staff and students from the Burkhart Center shared information about how their TCDD-funded project, Project CASE (Connections for Academic Success and Employment), was helping students with I/DD explore careers and pursue meaningful employment.

The deadline to submit a presentation proposal form is Tuesday, January 31, 2017. Completed proposal forms and questions can be submitted to Robin Troutman at rtroutman@nacdd.org. To learn more about the conference, visit the NACDD Annual Conference webpage.
