October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). For over 70 years, NDEAM has provided an opportunity to celebrate the contributions people with disabilities make to the workforce and to raise awareness about the importance of including people of all abilities in the workplace.
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) assembled an NDEAM 2017 Resource Toolbox designed to help individuals and organizations raise awareness during NDEAM. The toolbox includes a poster, sample social media content, drop-in articles, and more. The theme for 2017 is “Inclusion Drives Innovation.”
In addition to the resource toolbox, ODEP provides many specific ideas to help disability-related organizations, educators, and employers participate in NDEAM. Ideas include:
- reaching out to local media (disability-related organizations),
- organizing a school assembly (educators), and
- participating in Disability Mentoring Day (employers).
