EveryChild, Inc., will provide a supportive learning environment for a Policy Fellow to develop deep understanding and preparation to successfully engage in public policy development affecting children and youth with developmental disabilities and their families so that children and youth grow up in well supported families. The Policy Fellow will learn about family-based alternatives for children and youth who are living in facilities under the auspices of Health and Human Services (Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, and Department of Family and Protective Services). They will learn about state Medicaid and Medicaid waivers that can support children to live with families instead of in institutions and will learn about other relevant state and community level disability policies. By providing opportunities for the Policy Fellow to work in, they will develop an outreach plan for public education and awareness, provide trainings or webinars, research and analyze policy issues in selected core areas, develop policy recommendations to be included in public reports and commit to policy work regarding children with developmental disabilities and families after the end of project.
