Project SPEAK (Sharing Personal Experiences and Knowledge) will recruit, train and support at least 50 self-advocates from diverse backgrounds who will make presentations at local and statewide events where their message will have an impact. Using Imagine Enterprises’ existing statewide network of relationships and marketing materials, project staff will recruit organizations to sponsor 12 teams of five self-advocates, training three new teams per year. These teams will receive training to develop their public speaking and presentation skills. In addition, each self-advocate will choose, research and develop topics for presentations. With support from Project SPEAK mentors and facilitators, the self-advocates will deliver their presentations at meetings, conferences and/or trainings.
State Plan Goal 6
Work with others to double the number of identified leadership development and advocacy training programs that are able to provide culturally appropriate training for people with developmental disabilities without ongoing grant funding from TCDD.
Area of Emphasis
Promoting Self-Advocates as Speakers
